Plan to convert Catholic schools into charters faces hurdles

A plan supported by Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to convert Catholic schools slated for closure into charter schools is facing hurdles. “There are real concerns about whether this is parochial school education by another name,” said the executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union.
