In weekday Mass homily, Pope links ‘doctors of the law,’ scandal, persecution
September 21, 2018
CWN Editor's Note: The Pope preached that the “doctors of the law” “have an attitude that only the hypocrites use often: they are scandalized ... Now everyone has the right to enter into the church, even the divorced, everyone. But where are we? The scandal of the hypocrites ... And the Church, when it journeys through history, is persecuted by hypocrites: hypocrites within and without.”The above note supplements, highlights, or corrects details in the original source (link above). Pope Francis said in his homily: "But look, what a scandal! You can’t live like that! We have lost our values. Now everyone has the right to enter into the church, even the divorced, everyone." As previously, Francis is either revealing the social circle that he is immersed in, or he is creating another straw man. Does anyone in this reading audience know or know of anyone who thinks that the divorced have no right to enter the church? I don't. Divorce has absolutely no bearing on church entry.
