Where was the outrage among the hierarchy 25 years ago when former seminarians exposed to sexual assault were pleading their case before small groups of lay Catholics like my Catholics United for the Faith group? If we laity knew from first-hand accounts the kind of abuse that was going on in Catholic seminaries, then bishops and priests in the abusive dioceses had to know. Around 2000 it was publicly revealed that a local pastor and assistant were active homosexuals. No diocesan repercussions.
