German Cardinal Cordes backs plea for clarity on Amoris Laetitia

December 13, 2016

Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, the retired president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, has voiced his support for the four cardinals who have submitted dubia seeking clarificaiton of Amoris Laetitia.

Cardinal Cordes told the Austrian Catholic news service Kath.net that the cardinals were engaged in an honest effort to eliminate confusion about Church teaching. He voiced his concern that the confusion could hamper the Church’s efforts to promote sacramental marriage. He also said that he did not understand why some Church officials have reacted angrily to the dubia, and wondered aloud why anyone would be angered by a request for clarification.

Cardinal Cordes suggested that the task of answering questions about the papal document could be handled by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and its prefect, Cardinal Gerhard Müller.

Thank you Cardinal Cordes!! We Catholics deserve "clarification" on this very important document.

Yes, good Cardinal; we too wonder why 5 straightforward questions are causing such rigidity in certain quarters and we too wonder why there are angry reactions to the request for clarification. So far, all of those responses totally lack substance being either dismissive (we discussed that!?) or wrapped around an attempt to discredit the request (false clarity!?). Support for clarification will continue as those with eyes see the false interpretations grow.
