Inter-faith dialogue thwarts extremists, says apostolic administrator of Jerusalem

September 22, 2016

Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the apostolic administator of the Latin-rite Patriarchate of Jerusalem, has underlined the importance of inter-religious dialogue as a means of combatting extremism.

"Fundamentalism wants to boycott any kind of dialogue, and in order to fight fundamentalism we have to do exactly what they don't want," the archbishop said. He was speaking at his formal installation as apostolic administrator of Jerusalem. He was appointed to that post in June, when Patriarch Fouad Twal resigned, having reached the age of 75.
