Baton Rouge bishop calls for week of prayer and fasting after police slain
July 18, 2016
Bishop Robert Muench of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has called for "a diocesan-wide week of prayer and fasting" in response to the shooting deaths of three police officers.
The bishop said that "prayer is a powerful path to follow when tragedy happens," although he acknowledged that the shootings have shaken the city and made people ask questions about the meaning of the violence. "Only the Word of God has the answer to the questions that shake our faith," he said. "The answer is our Lord Jesus Christ."
