4 blesseds, including St. Thérèse’s parents, to be canonized on October 18

June 29, 2015

During an ordinary consistory of the College of Cardinals, as Pope Francis and the cardinals celebrated Terce (Midmorning Prayer) in the Apostolic Palace, the Pontiff formally approved a decree on the canonization of Blessed Louis Martin (1823-94) and Blessed Marie-Azélie Guérin Martin (1831-77), the parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

During the June 27 consistory, Pope Francis also approved decrees for the canonization of Blessed Vincenzo Grossi (1845-1917), an Italian priest who founded the Daughters of the Oratory, Blessed María de la Purísima Salvat Romero (1926-98), a Spanish nun and member of the Sisters of the Company of the Cross.

The four will be canonized on October 18, at the beginning of the third and final week of the Synod of Bishops on the family.
