Vatican celebrates Pope's 'name day'
April 23, 2015
The Vatican celebrated April 23 as a holiday, marking the feast of St. George, the patron saint of Pope Francis, who was born Jorge Bergoglio.
Msgr. Guillermo Karcher, an Argentinian priest and longtime friend of the Pope, told Vatican Radio that he saw the Holy Father as a reflection of St. George: "a great fighter against the forces of evil, and he does this with a truly Christian spirit."
