HLI announces new leaders

August 08, 2011

Human Life International (HLI) has announced a new leadership team, with Father Shenan Boquet stepping in as the organization’s president and Father Peter West as vice president for missions.

The new leaders will assume their posts at HLI on September 1. Their appointments end a search that began soon after the previous president, Father Thomas Euteneuer, resigned suddenly in August 2010. After a lengthy silence, HLI revealed that Father Euteneuer’s departure was the result of misconduct charges.

Father Shenan Boquet is a priest of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Louisiana. A native of that state, he has an extensive background in giving retreats and conferences on marriage and moral theology. Father Peter West comes to HLI from Priests for Life, where he was associate director.

Msgr. Ignacio Barreiro, who has been serving as interim president of HLI during the transition period, will return to his previous assignment as head of the group’s Rome office.

May Our Lord continue to bless this invaluable and holy organization - that it may grow and flourish in the years ahead. Our prayers go to Msgr. Barreiro, who did such an excellent job guiding HLI forward during a very difficult period. Please continue to support HLI and the courageous priests who are on the front line of this struggle against the demonic attacks on innocent life.
