A Greek treatise on morals and doctrine traditionally said to have been composed by the Apostles. Most probably written by a Syrian bishop in the third century. It forms the first part of the Apostolic Constitutions, i.e., the first eight books. It deals with the care of penitents, duties of clergy and laity, and the defense of the faith against heresy. Often called the first attempt at a code of canon law.
