Catholics need not apply; funds cheerfully accepted

By ( articles ) | Mar 31, 2010

Remember Martha Coakley, the Massachusetts attorney general and sometime Senate candidate who memorably suggested that Catholics probably shouldn't be working in hospital emergency rooms?

Coakley's unsuccessful Senate campaign had the enthusiastic backing of Ralph de la Torre, the head of the Caritas Christi health system: the 6-hospital network run by the Boston archdiocese. De la Torre and his wife each gave the Coakley campaign the maximum contribution allowed under federal law; they also hosted a fundraiser for the Democratic hopeful in their home.

Catholics currently working in the Caritas Christi emergency rooms, take note.
