California man arrested for revenge beating of priest he accused of abuse

November 01, 2010

A California man who allegedly attacked and battered a Jesuit priest several months ago has been arrested, two days after he filed a sex-abuse lawsuit naming the Vatican and the Jesuit order among the defendants.

William Lynch reportedly confronted Father Jerold Lindner at a Jesuit retirement home on May 10. He was arrested on October 29, when police said that they had evidence identifying Lynch as the perpetrator of the May assault.

Lynch has charged that Father Lindner abused him and his brother. The two had accepted a settlement from the Jesuit province of California to end an earlier lawsuit.
