CWN Editor's Note: At the conclusion of his October 28 general audience, Pope Leo XIV met with a Jordanian priest (Father Ibrahim Nino) and 35 of his parishioners, five days after a terrorist attack on a Greek Orthodox Church there.
Father Nino said he “assured the Holy Father that Jordan will remain a great example of hope and fraternity for the entire Middle East and for all the nations of the world.”
The Pontiff also met in St. Peter’s Square with
- 45 Ukrainian athletes from a soccer team of amputees, accompanied by the Ukrainian ambassador to the Holy See and the four Salesian priests who started the project
- 100 sick or disabled Austrians, accompanied by members of a charitable initiative of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta
- Auxiliary Bishop José Maria Garcia Maldonado of Chicago, accompanied by 30 pilgrims. The prelate said that he told Pope Leo about the Coalition for Spiritual & Public Leadership, of which he is spiritual director; the organization states that it merges liberation theology with community organizing.
- the great-nieces and great-nephews of Archbishop Jean Jadot (1909-2009), who gave Pope Leo the mitre Archbishop Jadot wore when he ordained the future Pontiff to the priesthood in 1982
