Slovenian leader praises Pontiff’s moral guidance
October 06, 2026
Prime Minister Janez Janša of Slovenia met with Pope Leo XIV on October 5 and praised the Pontiff for his moral guidance.
“Heartfelt thanks to [Pope Leo] for the reception and blessing,” Prime Minister Janša wrote in a social media post following the audience. “The moral aspect of the use of artificial intelligence, the commitment to peace, as well as the proposals for addressing matters in a time when the old international order has clearly passed and the new one has not yet arrived—these moral guidelines are of exceptional importance to ensure that humanity does not stray into a dark period!”
The prime minister then met with Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations. According to a Vatican statement, the parties discussed Church-state relations and “various international issues, including the political situation in the Western Balkans and the region’s future prospects in the process of European integration.”
Located in Central Europe (map), Slovenia, a nation of 2.2 million, is 83% Christian (77% Catholic) and 4% Muslim.
