Pope pays tribute to Spanish saint, recalls Blessed Wyszyński’s Jasna Góra vows

At the conclusion of his August 26 general audience, Pope Leo XIV paid tribute to St. Teresa Jornet Ibars (1843-1897), foundress of the Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados (Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly).
“Today we celebrate the memorial of Saint Teresa of Jesus Jornet e Ibars, a Spanish nun and patroness of the elderly,” Pope Leo said to Spanish-speaking pilgrims. “Through her intercession, let us ask the Lord to bless all the elderly, as well as those who care for and accompany them.”
The Pontiff also recalled the seventieth anniversary of the vows of Jasna Góra, written by Blessed Stefan Wyszyński, the Primate of Poland from 1948 to 1981.
Addressing Polish-speaking pilgrims, Pope Leo said:
I join spiritually with those gathered in Częstochowa, where today, 70 years later, the Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation, drafted by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński during his imprisonment, are being renewed today.
May the program of society’s moral renewal contained in them, through the protection of human life, care for marriage and the family, and the education of children and young people, continue to inspire the building of justice and fraternity,
The Pontiff’s words were omitted from the Vatican’s English translation of his remarks. Vatican News, the news agency of the Dicastery for Communication, published an article on the Pope’s words to Polish-speaking pilgrims.
