Pope Leo: In persons with intellectual disabilities, we see Christ’s gaze

Pope Leo XIV praised the work of Marsodeto, an organization based in Toledo, Spain, that assists persons with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy.
During an August 24 audience, Pope Leo described such assistance as “an arduous task, undoubtedly; with much hidden work, which no one sees and that only God can reward, and where it is very gratifying to discover, in the face of each person, Jesus Christ himself.”
“From your work you can testify, in a privileged way, to what we hear in the Gospel: ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me,’“ (Mt 25:40),” the Pope continued. “Knowing how to recognize, in the lives of the weakest and most vulnerable, the gaze of Christ who addresses us, is something that makes us grow as a human and Christian society.”
Marsodeto was founded by Father Marcelino Casas in 1980.
