Chinese bishop still detained, two years after protesting illicit ordinations

CWN Editor's Note: Bishop Simone Zhang Jianlin, the vicar general of the Xuanhua diocese, remains imprisoned, two years after he was arrested for public statements protesting canonical irregularities in the ordination of priests.

AsiaNews reports that government officials have to date ignored pleas for the bishop’s release on humanitarian grounds, since his 90-year-old mother is seriously ill.
