Father Maciel's accuser sought money for silence, Legion reports

The Mexican woman who this week announced that she had borne three sons to Father Marcial Maciel, the late founder of the Legionaries of Christ, asked the religious order for $26 million before going public with her claims, the Legionaries have disclosed. Blanca Estela Lara Gutierrez reportedly said that she would "keep quiet about the truth" if she received the payment. The Legionaries neither confirmed nor denied the accuracy of her story.
