Queen Elizabeth’s role in two churches—Anglican and Presbyterian—recalled

CWN Editor's Note: Although the Church of England looked to her as the “Defender of the Faith,” Queen Elizabeth II died a Presbyterian, writes Damian Thompson in The Spectator.

When she was in Scotland, where she died, Queen Elizabeth regularly worshipped at a local Presbyterian church. Although she steered clear of theological debates within the Church of England, she appeared comfortable with the “low church” Protestant tradition—particularly in her later years, as she became more public in her statements of Christian faith.
