Prelate from Ghana to lead African bishops’ conferences

CWN Editor's Note: The bishops of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) has elected Cardinal-designate Richard Kuuia Baawobr, MAfr, of Wa (Ghana) to a three-year term as president.

In addition to SECAM, the continental bishops’ assemblies include CELAM (Latin American Episcopal Council), CCEE (Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe), FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences), and FCBCO (Federation of Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Oceania). These continental assemblies will assume special importance during the third phase of the Synod of Bishops on synodality.
