Christians in Karnataka invoke Gandhi, call for protection against persecutors

On the day when India marks the death of Gandhi, more than 2,000 Christians in the troubled Karnataka region joined in a protest march, calling for effective government action to prevent violence against the religious minority. Sajan George, the president of the sponsoring Global Council of Indian Christians, told AsiaNews: "Today we remember Gandhi, the apostle of nonviolence. It is a shame for the whole of India that, after his teaching, there are still people who are persecuted for their faith. "
