Chilean bishops urge harmony amid election-campaign tensions

CWN Editor's Note: The Catholic bishops of Chile have exhorted their people to “live the electoral process in peace and civic harmony,” as violent demonstrations have flared a month before national elections. “Legitimate political protest,” the bishops observed, “often become destructive of public and private property and spaces.” An open debate and democratic election, they said, should promote “hope, sense of belonging, and commitment to the common good.”
