Tunisian prelate says president’s seizure of power welcomed by people

CWN Editor's Note: Archbishop Ilario Antoniazzi of Tunis reports that a decision by President Kais Saied of Tunisia to suspend the country’s legislature and assume full control of the government was “welcomed with relief” by most people, because “the population was fed up with the situation.” The archbishop acknowledged that in the wake of the president’s unilateral move “there may be a restriction of freedoms,” however. “Let’s see how things go,” he said.
