Belarus: top Orthodox prelate dies

CWN Editor's Note: Metropolitian Filaret of Minsk, leader of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belarus, died on January 12 at the age of 85, of complications from the Covid virus. Once the top Orthodox prelate in Western Europe, he had also chaired the external-affairs department for the Moscow patriarchate. Metropolitan Filaret was one of the many Orthodox prelates who had worked with the KGB during the Communist era.
