CWN Editor's Note: Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco, who leads the Western American Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church outside Russia, has issued an open letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom, denouncing an executive order than bans singing in churches. Noting importance of singing in the Orthodox liturgy, he said: “This is open discrimination, hypocrisy, and the infringement of our religious rights, prompting us to recall the era of godless persecution in the USSR.”
