Benedictine monk, in prestigious NEH lecture, warns that society is losing its ability to listen

CWN Editor's Note: To be invited to give the annual Jefferson Lecture is the “highest honor the federal government confers for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities,” according to the National Endowment for the Humanities. Father Columba Stewart, OSB, of Saint John’s Abbey (Collegeville, Minnesota) is “the monk who saves manuscripts from ISIS,” in the words of a 2017 article. Father Stewart’s lecture begins at approximately 54 minutes in this video .
