Priest warned archbishop of Bishop Lahey’s pornography

October 06, 2009

A Canadian priest now ministering in Florida says he informed Newfoundland’s leading prelate in 1989 that an abuse victim recounted that he had seen pornography in Bishop Raymond Lahey’s home in 1985.

Father Kevin Molloy says he also confronted Bishop Lahey about his pornography. “It was 20 years ago, over 20 years ago, that I had spoke to him on the very topic of pornography and I was appalled to realize obviously my message didn't get through to him,” he said.

Bishop Raymond Lahey was ordained Bishop of St. George’s (Newfoundland) in 1986 and transferred to the Diocese of Antigonish (Nova Scotia) in 2002. Newfoundland’s leading prelate in 1989-- Archbishop Alphonsus Penney of Saint John’s-- resigned from his position in 1991 at the age of 66.

No surprise here. Once in the grip of pornography, he obviously has not used the primary weapons to defeat this sin, namely the rosary and penance. At least twenty years of this? So he was probably yet another homosexual predator promoted within the Church. Who was his sponsor? (Website considerably improved!)
