Pope declines Cardinal Barbarin’s resignation
March 19, 2019
CWN Editor's Note: Pope Francis has declined to accept the resignation of Cardinal Philippe Barbarin of Lyon, who was convicted last week of failing to report sexual abuse. Citing the presumption of innocence, the Pontiff indicated that he would wait for the result of the cardinal’s legal appeal. However, Cardinal Barbarin said that for the good of the Lyon archdiocese, he will step aside and allow the vicar general, Father Yves Baumgarten, to take control of the archdiocese. The above note supplements, highlights, or corrects details in the original source (link above).
