US public favors ban on abortion coverage in health plan, poll shows
September 18, 2009
A solid plurality of Americans favor a ban on abortion coverage in government-subsidized health care, according to a new Rasmussen poll. The telephone survey found that 48% of respondents wanted a prohibition on government funding for abortion, while only 13% felt that abortion coverage should be mandatory.
Another 32% of those polled "favor a more neutral approach with no requirements in either direction," Rasmussen reports. But a neutral approach is not a real option; abortion services either will or will not be covered.
