Cardinal O’Malley seen at odds with Pontiff on sex-abuse policy

CWN Editor's Note: A Wall Street Journal report points to signs of tension between Pope Francis and Cardinal Sean O’Malley, the head of the papal sex-abuse commission. The American cardinal objected in 2017 to a Vatican panel that had reduced canonical penalties for clerical offenders. “If this gets out, it will cause a scandal,” he reportedly said. His warning was ignored, and since that time his influence has dwindled, the Journal reports.
