I welcome Fr. Spadoro's remarks and will return to them. That said, Gallicanism remains Gallicanism. Moreover, the government of China increasingly engages in violations of basic civil liberties and the persecution of people of faith. Consider the "re-education" now imposed on so Muslims. History reflects the horrible consequences of State overreach. China offers a prime example of this. So, too, in many ways, does the United States.
