Vatican newspaper draws attention to plight of children detained on Nauru
August 22, 2018
The August 22 edition of L’Osservatore Romano devoted prominent front-page coverage to the suffering of child migrants detained on the Pacific island of Nauru.
Sent there by the Australian government, the migrants have suffered abuse and even torture, according to a Guardian investigation cited by the Vatican newspaper.
“Tragedies linked to immigration do not concern only the Mediterranean, North Africa, or the border between Mexico and the United States,” the unsigned L’Osservatore Romano article stated. “There are also other routes that do not make news in the international media.”
