Former Irish president recalls proposal for all that country’s bishops to resign

CWN Editor's Note: According to former Irish President Mary McAleese, at least one “very senior cleric” in Ireland suggested that all the Irish Catholic bishops should resign in 2009, after public revelations about sexual abuse by priests. McAleese recalled the suggestion after the entire body of Chilean bishops submitted their resignations to Pope Francis in a similar scandal.
