Pontiff to lead Vespers service in Aosta, near vacation home
July 23, 2009
Pope Benedict XVI, who has scheduled few public appearances during his vacation in the Italian Alps, will preside at a Vespers service in the cathedral of Aosta, the city closest to his cabin in the village of Les Combes, on Friday, July 24. The Holy Father will arrive by "popemobile," giving local residents an opportunity to see him, and will address the public from the balcony of the cathedral after the ceremony.
Pope Benedict has already made one unscheduled appearance in Aosta, when he was taken to the local hospital for surgery to repair a fractured wrist after he slipped and fell in his cabin.
