Schism in Zambia; priest excommunicated
June 12, 2009
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has declared that Father Luciano Mbewe, founder of the Catholic Apostolic National Church of Zambia, has been excommunicated. Father Mbewe is a vocal advocate of permitting priests to marry, and his splinter group has links to Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo, who was himself excommunicated in 2006.
