Peruvian bishops protest Canadian Catholic agency's support for 'pro-choice' work

June 10, 2009

The Catholic bishops of Peru have sent a formal request to the Canadian Catholic hierarchy to stop funding of a group that has been involved in the promotion of legal abortion. The Peruvan bishops' letter, signed by Archbishop José Eguren, protested the support offered by the Canadian Catholic Organization of Development & Peace for groups that espouse a "pro-choice" position. He said: "It is very disturbing to have groups which work against the Bishops of Peru by attempting to undermine legal protection for the right to life of unborn children, be funded by our brother bishops in Canada.”

The LifeSite News service has taken the lead in exposing the connections between the Canadian Catholic Organization of Development & Peace and groups that have worked for legal abortion in Latin America.
