German SSPX leaders could face excommunication for illicit ordinations

German leaders of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) could face excommunication if they proceed with the scheduled ordination of priests without authorization from the Holy See, a spokesman for the Regensburg diocese has said. The rector of the SSPX seminary at Zaitzkofen says that the ordinations will proceed, saying that the unauthorized ceremony is justified because of a "state of emergency" in the Church.
