Police subdue hammer-wielding man in Roman church

Police in Rome stopped a man who approached the altar of St. Ignatius Loyola church flourishing a hammer on November 23.
The man was a middle-aged native of Rome with a criminal record, police disclosed, and was in a “clearly confused state” when he was apprehended.
The arrest was made by a special unit of the carabinieri, dedicated to the protection of Italy’s cultural heritage.
