November 25, 2016

Pope Francis received Peter Thomson, the president of the United Nations General Assembly, in a private audience on November 24.

The UN General Assembly’s president is elected by his peers to preside over meetings for a year. Thomson’s term began in September.

Thomson, who hails from Fiji, earlier met with Cardinal Peter Turkson, the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Thomson tweeted that he had a “very inspiring talk” with Cardinal Turkson on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
