Taiwan: thousands rally against same-sex marriage

November 17, 2016

An estimated 10,000 people joined in a demonstration in Taipei in opposition to a bid for legal recognition of same-sex marriage in Taiwan.

The rally was organized on November 17 as Taiwan’s lawmakers weighed a measure that would allow for same-sex marriage and the adoption of children by homosexual couples. The legislation has already received preliminary approval. If it becomes law, Taiwan would be the first Asian country to recognize same-sex marriage.
