Teaching and witness must go together, Vatican cardinal tells French bishops
November 09, 2016
Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, encouraged the bishops of France to offer a united witness in order to evangelize.
“‘Holy doctrine’ is insufficient for evangelization,” he preached on November 8 to bishops gathered for their annual fall meeting at Lourdes. “Teaching and witness go together. Nothing extraordinary, only fidelity, coherence.”
“It is urgent to form our communities to love in the manner of Jesus Christ: a sober style of life … the choice of right and dialogue to conquer hate,” he added, as he paid tribute to the anonymous fathers and mothers, priests and religious who have passed on the faith.
