Cardinal Parolin: tribute to Benedict XV

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, delivered a lengthy talk on Pope Benedict XV at a conference in Bologna on November 3.
The last pope who counted other popes as relatives, Benedict XV made the promotion of peace “the primary objective of papal diplomacy,” according to Cardinal Parolin, and in doing so, he paved the way for the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and subsequent popes.
