Cardinal Parolin highlights papal support for cooperatives

October 28, 2016

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, has written the introduction to a new book on papal teaching on cooperative economic institutions.

Focusing on the teaching of Pope Leo XIII’s 1891 encyclical Rerum novarum and Pope Francis’s 2015 address on cooperatives, Cardinal Parolin said that cooperatives are manifestations of human solidarity as an alternative to the “force of money” and the “force of a totalitarian state.”
