Bishop D’Arcy addresses 3,000 at Notre Dame pro-life rally
May 19, 2009
Fort Wayne - South Bend Bishop John D’Arcy, who absented himself from his first Notre Dame commencement in his 25 years as local bishop, addressed 3,000 students, alumni, and visitors at a pro-life rally held hours before the ceremony in which President Barack Obama received an honorary degree. “You see in a lot of the young people a real devotion to the Blessed Mother, a real devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, an intelligence and dignity,” said Bishop D’Arcy, who celebrated baccalaureate Mass the day before commencement. “So I think there's great hope and those of us who are older have to be inspired by them, but also inspire them in their leadership.” Thirty students skipped their graduation to pray for the unborn.
