4 catechists tortured, murdered in Mexico

October 06, 2016

On October 4, the bodies of four young catechists were found in a lemon orchard in San Juan de Los Plátanos, a community in the Mexican state of Michoacán.

Willibaldo Hernández, Adán Valencia, Jesús López Urbina, and Jesús Ayala Aguilar were tortured before they were murdered. They belonged to Arcoiris, a youth evangelization organization that arose from the Cursillo movement.

A local drug cartel is suspected of carrying out the murders; one of victims was an ex-member of a vigilante group opposed to the cartels.
