Jesuits to elect new superior general

The Society of Jesus’ 36th general congregation will open at the Church of the Gesù in Rome on October 2.
During the meeting, the Society, founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, will elect its 31st superior general. The current superior general, Father Adolfo Nicolás, has served as “Black Pope” since 2008 and turned 80 in April.
