Vienna's Cardinal Schönborn sees Muslim threat to Europe

Vienna's Cardinal Christoph Schönborn warned that "Europe is on the verge of forfeiting its Christian heritage" during a homily at Sunday Mass on September 11.
Cardinal Schönborn spoke on the question: "Willl there be an Islamic conquest of Europe?" He told his congregation that "many" Muslims now have that ambition, believing that European culture is exhausted and "Europe is finished."

While the Pope and the press fret over long-settled questions of Catholic morality, Europe is on the verge once again of conquest by what Belloc referred to as Christian heretics. Will the Pope rise to the challenge, as previous popes had done during the second Christian millennium? Maybe it's safer to bury one's head in the sand of environmentalism and the "I'm okay, you're okay" art of accommodation with the ways of the world. But hiding from the real problem will not resolve the crisis.
