9th consecutive year of membership decline for Southern Baptists
August 24, 2016
The Southern Baptist Convention, the United States’ largest Protestant denomination, has experienced its ninth consecutive year of membership decline.
Membership fell from 15.5 million to 15.3 million in 2015, even as pastors founded 294 new churches. Weekly church attendance in 2015 was approximately 5.6 million, according to the Associated Press.
“In a world that is desperate for the message of Christ, we continue to be less diligent in sharing the Good News,” said executive committee president and CEO Frank Page.
