Liturgical week message: penitents should be encouraged to show compassion
August 22, 2016
Pope Francis has consigned to an Italian bishop a message written by the Vatican’s Secretary of State for the 67th national liturgical week, which is taking place in Gubbio.
In the message, Cardinal Pietro Parolin stated that the entire liturgy is a place where God’s mercy “made present, announced, celebrated, and communicated.”
In the Sacrament of Penance, he continued, penitents who are reconciled with God should be encouraged to reconcile with others, to let go of resentments, and to show mercy to those in need.
