Papal prayers for Turkey following terrorist attack
August 22, 2016
Following the recitation of the Angelus on August 21, Pope Francis invited the crowd in St. Peter’s Square to pray a Hail Mary for “dear Turkey.”
Referring to a terrorist attack on a Kurdish wedding party that left over 50 dead, the Pope said that “sad news has reached me about the bloody attack” in Gaziantep-- an attack attributed to the Islamic State by the Turkish government.
“Let us pray for the victims, for the dead and the injured, and we ask for the gift of peace for all,” the Pope added.
